Reykjavik Iceland Day 1

We landed in KEF and breezed through customs.  If traveling with a group, it's a good idea to make sure everyone gets into the country but as far as customs go, we breezed through. Dan had a car arranged which saved us a great deal of hassle and we paid about $40 USD a person for a 45 minute drive. Thank you Dan!
We arrived at Icalandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina. I really liked this hotel. Rooms were very small but functional. It was a former paint factory. Near the Marina & Volcano museum  and easy to get to town.

They had good meals here - we ate lunch and I had a great ocean perch on a salad while Jim had a hummus peanut chicken flat bread. We tasted Boli beers which ended up being our favorite Icelandic beer.

We then employed our overnight flight rule- No sleeping! The Stacy's thought this was a horrible idea and took a nap & met up with a coworker of Dave's for dinner. They seemed refreshed.
We meandered down to the waterfront and saw Harpa Museum

At night they have a laser show at the museum that Dan & Jan went down to see (while searching for the Northern Lights). We then walked onto see the Sun Voyager-

 Sun Voyager is a sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason, located next to the Sæbraut road in Reykjavík, Iceland. Sun Voyager is described as a dreamboat, or an ode to the sun. The artist intended it to convey the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.

 Along the way they had stones stacked, much like in New Zealand.  Cairns - is stone stacking, originally used to mark trails or announce a city. Tourists are doing this and upsetting the locals. Jim gives his commentary on what he thinks of tourists disrupting the landscape. Cairns Rock Stacking

The Hop on Hop Off bus stop is near here but at $40 pp and such an easy city to walk around, we skipped it.

 Interesting signs and art work along the waterfront as we turned into town we began seeing more shops.

                                    The art scattered into the town was quite enjoyable and functional!

We could see the chucrh up ahead. Jan & Beth broke off to shop. We headed for the famous church named Hallgrimskirkja

 We then walked around some more and past by the Penis museum- nice where we opted not to go in as it's 1 room at $20 pp and really having been in health care 34 years it is all the same. Except this elephant or whale....I can't recall which. We should have gone back to the church.

                                            We had dinner nearby and ready for bed! Day in the books!
